Meat Messaging FAQs

This section of the Meat Messaging website provides FAQs.

To use the "Meat Messaging" system you must be an export meat establishment. To find out more about export listing contact your meat export/ import regulatory authority. In Australia this is the "Export Meat Program", Australian Government, Department of Agriculture.

Export meat establishments should obtain approval to use the MEat MEssaging system from your regulatory authority. In Australia this is the "Export Meat Program", Australian Government, Department of Agriculture.

The "Meat Messaging" system is based on the GS1 standards for numbering and bar coding of meat products and the GS1 EANCOM electronic message standards.

The "Meat Messaging" system is an online tool for the creation, sending, receiving, attestation statements and compliance declaration of meat products (carton, carcases, carcase portions, pallets, bulk packs and containers) GS1 EANCOM messages. These messages assist regulatory authorities with the authenticity, verification and traceability of meat products. The GS1 bar coding standards and GS1 EANCOM electronic message standards do not replace existing regulatory requirements, they assist and supplement these requirements.

To use the "Meat Messaging" system you must have a GS1 membership. This is necessary to globally identify you as the creator of a message

You must register on the Meat Messaging website to use the "Meat Messaging" system.

The registration process is for an establishment (location) and the individual users working for that establishment.

This depends on what you are using the Meat Messaging portal to do

Below is a list of the common different uses of the Meat Messaging portal:

  1. Listed Establishment moving export product to another listed Establishment
  2. Listed Establishment moving export product to another listed Establishment for direct export
  3. Listed Establishment packing a container for export
  4. Listed Establishment receiving export product from another listed Establishment
  5. Listed Establishment importing product from a foreign listed Establishment

Each of the above have a set of steps that need to be followed.

Below is a list of steps for an Establishment to Establishment transfer:

  1. Log in to the MEat Messaging portal
  2. On the page "Journey details" under the "Sending Messaging" section click on "New Message"
  3. In the "Message Type" section select "eMTC".
  4. Complete the remaining fields on the screen and then click "Next"
  5. On the page "Additional information" complete the fields on the screen and then click "Next"
  6. On the page "Description of consignment" Click the "Add New Product Group" button and complete the details
  7. Click the "Add Carton Barcodes" button to open the upload scan file page.
  8. Click the "Browse.." button to open a windows to select a upload file of carton bar codes.
  9. Once3 a file is selected, click the "Upload and Review" button to upload the file.
  10. Click the "Import Barcodes" button to import the barcodes. These will be displayed in the "Barcode" section of the page. Click close once all bar codes are imported and displayed.
  11. On the page "Description of consignment" Click the "Next" button.
  12. On the page "Declaration and EU-eligibility" complete the fields and click the "Next" button.
  13. On the page "Print and Send eMTC" page click the "Send Message" button to send the eMTC message. Click the "Print eMTC" button to print the paper version of the eMTC.
  14. Click the "Close" button to return to the main menu

All cartons/ cases/ carcases that are slaughtered/ packed or received by you must have a meat industry GS1 compliant barcode.
